Does that have you in an okay mood? Good, because the rest of this is going to be upsetting.

In this episode, we’re talking about Alien3, so prepare yourselves for that. If you’ve never seen Alien3, it’s kinda-super-not-fun. We get into the irresponsibility of some of the more EGREGIOUS and UNNECESSARY choices regarding the characters in the construction of this script, the evolution on the story in terms of Ripley’s arc from Alien to present, and examine the development hell this movie slogged through before finally sprinting (using a distractingly obvious bluescreen technique) into theaters. All this and more on the latest episode of A Matter of Taste.

Okay. Apparently two conditions of this movie were

We can’t have Michael Biehn for reasons I guess, and Carrie Henn has aged out of the role, so we can’t have these two characters

Sigourney Weaver has always wanted Ripley to die (refer back to Aliens commentary)

Alien Isolation has best pre-order bonus ever

TL;DR—the two pre-order missions essentially let you play two pivotal moments from the original 1979 movie. WHAT.

A Matter of Taste: 045: I Sing the Nostromo Electric

amatteroftastepodcast:

I made a big deal about the podcast maybe not getting posted this evening, so of course everything had to just go swimmingly.

*pouts*

Whatevs. This week we’re talking about Alien. Yes, that Alien! The one that got a regular whole-wheat noun upgraded to a proper noun in a way that people actually recognize. Join us as we venture through the dizzying possibilities of retro-futurism, the impact of an iconic film series on the face of horror, and a monster design that allows us to just barely miss mentioning the Uncanny Valley for the eight hundredth time.

I have already begun preparing for the Aliens podcast next week (OUR SECRET REVEALED) (it was not very secret). Also, you can probably guess which other movie in the series I will show up for.

To honor the untimely passing of the awesome H. R. Giger, one of the strangest, most fantastic artists of our age, whose groundbreaking dark, biomechanical style has been an inspiration and influence for an incalculable number of artists working in myriad art forms, The Brothers Brick assembled a great post of Alien-inspired LEGO creations.

Here you see an awesome Xenomorph (complete with dribbling acid spittle) and bloody chest-burster, both built by the Arvo brothers, as well as a couple scenes from Aliens that were recently recreated in LEGO form by Missing Brick.

Head over to The Brothers Brick for lots more.
